250th Anniversary Finally Here!
By ELIZABETH DUBRULLE

GOFFSTOWN - Goffstown’s 250th anniversary year has officially begun. There will be lots going on this year as we celebrate, and I’ll be keeping you posted about the various events in this monthly column. But to tide you over, here are some of the highlights the 250th committee has planned for the coming year:
  • Goffstown Scavenger Hunt (May 26 to June 7): So you think you know Goffstown, do you? Well, test your knowledge at this community scavenger hunt and see how you do.

  • Goffstown Scavenger Hunt (May 26 to June 7): So you think you know Goffstown, do you? Well, test your knowledge at this community scavenger hunt and see how you do.

  • Old Home Day Block Party and Fireworks (June 4): The Main Street Program is planning the best Old Home Day yet, and the 250th committee will be adding to the festivities with a community-wide block party that features an array of performers and entertainers. The day will be topped off with a fireworks show. Don’t forget to get your fireworks donation into the Town Hall (checks should be made out to the Town of Goffstown with “fireworks” or “250th” written on the subject line and mailed to 16 Main St., Goffstown).

  • Anniversary Day (June 17): The actual anniversary will be celebrated at Town Hall with free birthday cake. Yumm...

  • 250th Gala Ball (June 25): Hosted at Saint Anselm College with music provided by local dj Eric Fletcher of DJ Etc., this adult-only event is a great opportunity to celebrate with your friends and neighbors.

  • 250th Parade (October 15): We’ll be topping off the first day of the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off & Regatta with Goffstown’s biggest parade yet. This is a great opportunity for your local group to get involved, so keep watching this space for details on how you can sign your organization up to participate in the parade.

  • Goffstown Challenge (all year long): Later this month, we’ll be kicking off the Goffstown Challenge, a year-long event for all Goffstown residents that challenges you to complete a series of tasks that focus on Goffstown. When you’ve completed the challenge, you get a free t-shirt, available only to those hearty few who prove they have the Right Stuff. Our next column will present more details about this challenge—in other words, we’ll be throwing down the gauntlet!

This list is by no means comprehensive. There are also lectures, historic tours, exhibition games, and all sorts of events in the works. Just keep checking for this column to find out all the details for what’s on tap for the coming month.

In January, Goffstown schools will begin kicking off their celebrations with a variety of activities, including special assemblies held at Glen Lake, Maple Ave., and Bartlett schools. And as I mentioned before, by the end of the month, we’ll be announcing the terms of the Goffstown Challenge.

And make sure you support our year of festivities with either a donation or by buying a “Celebrate Goffstown” bumper sticker, available at several locations around town.

So get ready to celebrate 250 years of the town’s history. Goffstown ... a great place
... a great story ... a great future!
