Trash dumped on Rail Trail

A couple of weeks ago, more than forty volunteers came out on a hot summer day with record breaking temperatures to begin the initial clearing on the "First Mile" project of the Goffstown Rail Trail. The group included the Friends of the Goffstown Rail Trail, St. Anselm college freshmen, and Troop 354 Junior Girl Scouts. The "First Mile" project will be the first major construction on the rail trail, being funded primarily by a $30,000 Recreational Trails Program grant, matched with more than $8,000 in donations, volunteer labor, and other contributions.

All of these hard working people were recently given a big slap in the face. A short distance from where the hard volunteer work took place, some selfish person looking to save a buck at the expense of others has dumped a large truck load of trash along the Goffstown Rail Trail, rather than disposing of it properly. In addition to the main dumping site, there are several additional scattered pieces on the trail, looking like they fell off the truck as it drove down the trail. This was no ordinary household trash, but apparently the demolition debris from someone renovating an office. The pile includes commercial desks, shelves, tables, pretty much all of the basic furniture for an office. Cleaning this up will be an expense to the town, and a waste of people's time that could be better spent elsewhere.

The Goffstown Police have been out to investigate the site. If anyone has seen suspicious activity that might be related to this incident, or any other illegal activity on the rail trail, please contact the Goffstown Police.
