Homeless 18-year-old jailed for burglary

BY STEVEN ANDREWS

A burglary of no more than $100 from the Junior Baseball concession stand has resulted in a homeless Goffstown teen being held on $10,000 cash bail at Valley Street jail in Manchester.

Curtis Ayer, 18, was arrested at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, when he was found walking along Route 114 in Goffstown, about 13 hours after the burglary.

Police said that footprints left at the scene and further investigation led to Ayer as the main suspect.

“Day and night he walks around Route 114,” said Goffstown police Sgt. Robert Marcoux. “He’s not hard to see out there.”

His bail was set so high due to many factors, including previous criminal activity and the fear he would be a flight risk.

“He had a failure to appear for a previous court date and was given another, then failed to appear again,” Marcoux said.

In addition to the alleged burglary at the baseball field, Marcoux said there are other pending crimes Ayer has not yet been charged with.

Ayer had previously been involved with an alleged theft of $100 from a person in Pinardville.

He appeared in court on June 26, where is bail was upheld. The burglary charge has been sent to Superior Court, while Ayer will appear at Goffstown District Court on Aug. 23 to face a misdemeanor theft by unauthorized taking charge.
