Woman Knocked Unconscious After Returning Home
Police Unsure If Woman Interrupted Burglary

GOFFSTOWN -
A Goffstown woman was struck over the head and knocked unconscious by a burglar who was waiting inside her home when she returned from work last week, police said.

Investigators said that the woman returned to her Fairview Street home at about 4:15 p.m. on August 30th and found her door open. Worried that someone might have broken in, she began searching through the house.

"She went in to check what was going on inside the residence," Capt. Michael Sullivan said. "As she checked the residence, she was struck over the head by someone who was waiting inside one of the rooms and had actually knocked her out."

When the woman regained consciousness, she called police. Officers canvassed the neighborhood for about two hours, according to a neighbor.

"Somewhere around 5 o'clock, a police officer walked up to our door and asked us if we have seen anything suspicious in the neighborhood, but we hadn't," neighbor Sandy McCuaig said.

Nothing was taken from inside the home, and police said they can only speculate on a motive.

"We're not sure if it was a burglary interrupted or if there was someone waiting for her inside for her to come home, but we feel it was an isolated incident," Sullivan said.

Police said they don't know if the attacker was male or female or if that person used a weapon to knock the woman out. Authorities said it happened so fast that the woman never saw the assailant.

"She did not get any description; however, we did some investigation and we have a pretty good idea who was at the residence before that, and we're still chasing down some leads right now," Sullivan said.

Goffstown police said anyone with information about the case should call them at 603-497-4858.
