A Town worker not doing his job

To the Editor:

Mr. Derek Horne, Code Enforcement Officer, was alerted of a potential sign violation in Grasmere's Historic District in the fall of 2009. According to him, he sent out a letter to the offender. No action. According to him, he sent out another letter or at least was working the issue. No action. over the past few months, I spoke to his boss and two selectmen concerning this issue. No action.

Today, I took it upon myself to do what I expect Mr. Horne should have done ten months ago. I went to the location, found the bound marker and took this picture.

The sign in question is on town property! Simple: dispatch a town employee with a bolt cutter and remove the sign.

Clearly the code enforcement officer does not know or do his job. Firm corrective action should be taken immediately. From personal experience, I have experienced his inept workmanship before as have others.

Here's hoping I do not need to pull a permit from the Planning Department - so is life.
