Public Hearing on Wildlife Importation & Furbearer Rules

On Thursday, December 16, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., a public hearing will be held at New Hampshire Fish and Game Department at 11 Hazen Drive in Concord. This will be a hearing about proposed rules affecting the importation and possession of alligators, crocodiles and bison as well as clarifying the rules on furbearer hunting. Fish and Game is proposing to:

  1. Clarify that raccoon may be taken at night.
  2. Clarify that coyote may be taken by firearm or bow and arrow.
  3. Prohibit importation and possession of alligators and crocodiles by individuals
  4. Add bison as a non-controlled species for possession and remove the requirement for tagging under a propagators license. This means that persons will be able to possess and propagate Bison without a permit from the Fish and Game Department.
  5. Readopt wildlife rehabilitation rules.

The proposed rules, with original and proposed language may be found on the internet at: www.wildnh.com/Legislative/Notices_summary.htm. Written comments on the proposed changes may be submitted by no later than December 27th 2010. They should be mailed to:

Executive Director, N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H. 03301. You may e-mail your comments to:
comments@wildlife.nh.gov. Click on the subject line “Comment on Wildlife Rules” . You may also fax in your comments to:603-271-1438.

This is an important hearing and if there is anyway you can attend, I would recommend you do so. I hope all our readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now we should prepare for snow.
