State Rep. WILLIAM O'BRIEN
For the second time in two years, the Norwegians parliamentarians who control and award the Nobel “Peace” Prize have decided to weigh in with their preference for leftist American politicians.
So who is it who would award the Nobel Peace Prize to a controversial politician, who has nothing but reckless spending to point to for an accomplishment, based solely on his rhetoric?
Well, a committee appointed by the Norwegian parliament awards the prize.
There are 169 members of that assembly and when it appointed the Nobel committee for this year a majority of the parliament came from three staunchly leftist and generally anti-American political parties: the Norwegian Labor Party (61 seats), the Socialist Left Party (15), and the Liberal Party (10).
Now this kind of a committee is not going to turn to truly deserving candidates for the Peace Prize. Clearly, for example, the U.S. military services were not going to be considered for their contribution to world peace and safety by ridding the planet of a whole bunch of troublesome terrorists and keeping some of the worse of the remainder in Guantanamo where they can do us no harm.
Nor can we expect them to care about the emptiness of Obama’s record of accomplishments if there is an opportunity to feed into his demonstrated desire to receive international accolades through an American foreign policy centered on repeated apologies for imagined wrongs.
This is the third Nobel Peace Prize given to a prominent Democrat in less then 10 years. The only surprise this time is that they didn't give it to Joe “I Know Foreign Policy” Biden for adding another chapter to his history of “Cut and Run” advice by advocating retreat in Afghanistan.
These Norwegian leftists should stick with the likes of Yasser Arafat (1994) and Michael Gorbachev (1990) for their morally bankrupt prize and stay out of American politics.
