Why I am running for sewer commission and the zoning board

My name is Catherine “Cathy” Whooten and I am a candidate for both the sewer commission seat and a zoning board of adjustment seat for three years.

In the 1980s and ’90s I was active in town as a member of the budget committee and the reclamation and recycling committee.

I was a volunteer member of the 1997 master plan committee on which I served on the community facilities and utilities committee, focusing on the sewer commission and their master plan.

I was a member of the Manchester Airport Authority’s Master Plan committee in which we were able to address noise and traffic issues which resulted in constructive changes for all neighboring towns and the airport.

I am a past president (two terms) of the Goffstown Community Garden Club and participated in the first garden club sponsored household hazardous waste day in Goffstown.

I stepped away for a few years due to family and business obligations but have now decided to return and volunteer to help this town preserve and protect our neighborhoods in Grassmere, Pinardville and the Village.

I also would like to help encourage profitable economic development in the industrial zoned areas of this town to help offset taxes, school and town, without TIF funding. I am a self-employed accountant and accountability is my profession.

I believe by being a member of both the sewer commission and the ZBA I will be able to bring helpful information to both committees so Goffstown can continue to grow in accordance with the zoning ordinances, being especially attentive to neighborhood concerns.

Please feel free to e-mail me at namyw2@AOL.com your questions and concerns and I will be glad to answer any questions you may have. I will always find the time to listen to you.

I thank you for your attention, and hopefully I will see you at the Lions Club sponsored candidate’s night on Feb. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the media center in the Goffstown High School.
